Helping members of the public to feel safer in all their everyday activities is a priority for all governments. Air transport is increasingly part of the routine for many people, and it is a challenge for most authorities in the sector to ensure they use it in conditions of maximum safety. Airports are the best filter to prevent breaches of flight security. Rigourous and exhaustive control of all passengers before boarding, carry-on luggage and checked in luggage is essential for preventing any kind of attack. While this type of prevention has always been necessary, after the attacks of 11 September 2001, when aviation was used as a terrorist weapon, it is easy to understand how the number of victims and the impact of the events meant that airports became the key area for preventing similar attacks in the world of aviation.

There have been considerable financial, technological and human investments made in airports in recent years. Passengers have often been inconvenienced by the new measures, and therefore have viewed compliance with regulations and procedures with some resentment. As Aena is aware of the inconvenience and delays often caused to passengers by compliance with the rules established in airports and international regulations, and because it is also firmly convinced of the need for these rules to ensure air transport continues to be the safest way to travel, it regards as very useful the publication of this new book in the “Descubrir” (Discover) collection, which makes it easy for passengers to understand the need to achieve greater prevention in all matters related to airport security.
