Historia del Aeropuerto de Ibiza

  • Luis Utrilla
Language of the publication:

If air transport is essential for any territory, there is no doubt that this form of transport is simply vital for islands. And if we add that Ibiza is a tourist destination of first order, we should not find it strange that, although its incorporation in commercial aviation came a little late, today, however, the development achieved means that this airport will soon reach five million passengers.

But beyond the number of people using the airport, we should highlight the influence that air transport has meant for the island in its economic and social development. When, in 2009, this airport celebrated 60 years since its opening, this book evokes those first years where the Junker J-52 trimotors and the Bristol 170 freighters from the island of Palma de Mallorca started communications with the island. A history which includes images and anecdotes of the evolution of the island and its inhabitants and which constitutes a historic document of first order.
