Història de l´Aeroport de Reus

Language of the publication:

As occurred in many other Spanish provinces, the roots of aeronautical development in Reus can be traced back to the air festivals held during the first half of 20th century and specifically to 4 July 1911 when the famous aviator Mauvais endeavoured, although unsuccessfully, to fly from Sitges to Tarragona. Two years later, the French pilot Demazel managed to fly over the cities of Reus and Tarragona with his fragile wood and fabric aircraft. Despite the fact that its benign climate and attractive landscape soon made the Costa Dorada a popular tourist and summer destination, it was the enthusiasm for aeronautics that brought about the establishment of the first air station facilities on the outskirts of the city, a station that was not opened up to commercial traffic until 1957.

Today Reus Airport caters for one and a half million passengers and has a bright future. However, it would not be possible to understand this favourable perspective without all the history of the support and commitments of the public and private institutions, as well as the constant work and efforts of all the workers and management that have worked there and today continue to make this development possible. This history, set out in this book, is written in an easy style with illustrations that undoubtedly make it an attractive read for all aeronautics enthusiasts
